I may be educated, but I ain't no idiot
Something about me that a lot of people don’t know is that I have two degrees in government studies, aka political science.
I guess it seems kind of funny that a person like me would have degrees in that field, but it’s actually quite practical.
I was a late bloomer in going to a real college (more on that in a future post), so the life of an undergrad music student wasn’t really an option, being married at the time.
So I chose something that was of equal interest. And I ended up doing pretty well with it. In fact, those were some of the most productive years of my life. Playing my horn for Uncle Sam during the day, and doing coursework on topics that invigorated me on evenings and weekends.
Not a bad gig.
At any rate, something that I was always concerned about, and which in truth has influenced major decisions for my life, is the fear of becoming more or less a tool of the Establishment, which I lovingly refer to as the Gatekeepers of Polite Society.
If you want to tell me there’s not an agenda behind so-called “higher education” in America, then allow me to schedule a showing for a bridge in Brooklyn that’s currently on the market.
Just send me a little money each month, and I’ll let you know when it’s paid off.
But I knew that as long as I was aware of that, and used the experience gained from earning the degrees for legit purposes, it wouldn’t go to waste.
At any rate, that was the motivation behind the most recent episode of The Unwitting Hero. An old hillbilly from Appalachia finds himself in the academic scene, and more or less stomps his boot on the attempt to mold him into their own image.
