Dab me up
Hey friends, just wanted to check in and share a bit about what’s been cookin’ this past week—both literally and creatively.
First things first: I'm writing this from Virginia Beach, where I’ve been spending a few days visiting my son Gabriel.
This weekend’s big takeaway is “dabbing.” Both people swing their arms, then if the sound is just right when your hands clap, you do this weird handshake followed by a snap of the fingers.
It’s fun for him, so that makes it fun for me lol
Now, on the creative front—things have been moving with The Unwitting Hero series which really came alive this week.
I’ve been writing and recording a new story (just about) everyday, this week’s videos inspired by quotes from the Persian poet Rumi.
There’s just something about his words that just slices through the noise and gets right to the good stuff.
Here’s what’s dropped so far:
“The wound is the place where the light enters you.”
A story of hidden pain, unlikely healing, and the strange beauty found in broken things.“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.”
We follow a young man in a grey city who discovers a whisper in the silence—and it changes everything.“Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment.”
A high-achieving young doctor meets his match in a mysterious patient in Room 211. Turns out, smarts aren't everything.“The soul has been given its own ears to hear things the mind does not understand.”
A mediocre musician finds his way into a world where his song speaks louder than words. This may or may not be autobiographical in nature.
And today’s video might just be the most fun of the bunch:
“Just 'Cuz I'm Educated Don't Make Me No Idiot”
Virgil, a coal miner with a backwoods drawl and a bachelor’s degree who stuns a university faculty with his wisdom—and a one-liner that deserves to be carved in stone. Let’s just say he’s not what the ivory tower expected. (This wasn’t inspired directly by Rumi, but it’s got a significant connection to this weekend which I’ll share later.)
Anyway, that’s the vibe this week. Sun, salt air, myth-making, father-son bonding, and a bit of Rumi on the side.
Hope you're doing well and staying open to whatever strange pull might be tugging at your sleeve.
